Beyond Kanders: Decolonizing the Museum, Decolonizing the City – 09/07/2019

After nine months of organizing and action, in July Safariland CEO Warren Kanders was forced off of the board of the Whitney Museum of American Art. What comes next? The intention of this event is to collectively assess the current situation, flesh out principles, and develop the parameters of a decolonization process for the Whitney and other institutions at a city-wide scale. Organizing around the museum can offer a pathway into a larger project of movement-building that far exceeds the art system itself. Workers, artists, students, scholars, community groups, and everyone who feels a stake future of our institutions and movements are welcome. Join us as we continue to build a radical formation with the power to reclaim our city and decolonize this place.
